Analysis on the Evolution and Microphysical Characteristics of Two Consecutive Hailstorms in Spring in Yunnan, China

By using products of the cloud model, National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Final Operational Global Analysis (FNL) reanalysis data, and Doppler weather radar mesoscale characteristics, microphysical structure, mechanism two hail systems which occurred successively within 24 h in southeastern Yunnan have been analyzed. The results show that under influence southwest jets front south branch trough (SBT) periphery western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH), northeast-southwest banded echoes affect China twice. Meanwhile, local radial wind convergence uneven speed lead to intense development convective occurrence hail. simulated bands are similar observation. high-level line leads bands. low-level direction or divergence form a deep tilted updraft, with maximum velocity 15 m·s?1 at ?40~?10 °C layer, resulting clouds. embryos through conversion collision growth water snowflakes little do rain ice crystals. Abundant water, especially accumulation region supercooled (cloud water) near 0 is key formation embryos, qc up 1.92 g·kg?1 ?4~?2 layer. mainly grow by collision-coalescence (collision-freezing) (supercooled drops) snow crystal riming.
